Best Website Builders and Templates for Therapists, Compared

A laptop showing a website builder on a desk, for the best website builder for therapists

Short answer: the best website builder for a therapist is the one you'll actually keep updated, with a template that puts who you help and how to book front and center. For most solo therapists who want to build it themselves, Squarespace (from $19 a month, billed annually) or Wix (from about $17) is the simplest choice, while therapist-specific services like Brighter Vision (from about $78 a month) trade design freedom for support. Whatever you choose, the words on the page matter more than the platform.

If you're comparing builders at 11 p.m. with twelve tabs open, here's the honest part: almost nobody's website stalls because they picked the wrong builder. It stalls on the writing. My own early website described my work the way I'd explain it to a colleague, and rewriting it in the words clients actually use made a bigger difference than any template change. Today, in my last four months, all but two of my new inquiries found me on Google or ChatGPT, and my website is where they landed.

Business education, not technology or legal advice. Prices change often; the prices below were checked on each provider's site on November 1, 2026. Never collect clinical information through a website form that isn't HIPAA compliant.

The short version

  • General builders (Squarespace, Wix, Showit): about $17 to $40 a month on annual billing. Beautiful templates; you write and build everything.
  • WordPress: WordPress.com plans start at $4 a month, but a business-ready site usually needs the $25 plan or self-hosting, and more upkeep.
  • Therapist-specific services (Brighter Vision, TherapySites): about $59 to $299 a month. Therapy templates and support, less design freedom.
  • Your EHR's website: SimplePractice includes a basic Professional Website on its plans. Simple, but limited design and SEO.
  • Done-for-you: a designer or a program builds it with you. Highest cost up front, least of your time.

Website builder prices compared (November 2026)

Here's what each option costs as of November 1, 2026, from each company's own pricing page unless noted. "Annual" means the monthly price when you pay for a year up front.

Promotions, plan names, and setup fees change often, so treat this as a starting point and confirm on the provider's site before you pay. Add your domain name (often about $10 to $20 a year after any free first year) to any option.

Which builder fits which therapist

There isn't one best builder for everyone. There's a best fit for how you work and how much time you have.

If you are...ConsiderWhy
Opening soon, comfortable writing, on a tight budgetSquarespace Basic or Wix LightLowest-cost polished option; templates do the design
Visual, and you want a site that looks customShowitMore design freedom than most builders
Planning to blog a lot for searchWordPress (Business plan or self-hosted)Strongest blogging and SEO plugins
Short on time and want support on the phoneA therapist-specific serviceSetup help and therapy-ready pages
Already using SimplePractice and want the simplest startThe included Professional WebsiteNo extra bill; booking built in
Wanting it done, without a monthly retainerA designer or a done-for-you programYour time goes to clients, not boxes

One more test: picture yourself updating your fee or your availability a year from now. If that sounds miserable on a given builder, it's not your builder, no matter how good the demo looks.

What a therapist template needs

Ignore the photos in the template preview and look at the structure. A good therapist template makes these easy:

SectionWhy
A first screen that says who you help and wherePeople decide in seconds whether you're for them
A clear "Book a consultation" buttonOn every page, top and bottom
One page per serviceEach can rank for its own search
About page with your real photoPeople choose a person
Fees and insurance pageAnswers the biggest question before a call
FAQ or "what to expect"Lowers the fear of a first session
Mobile-friendly layoutMost web traffic worldwide now comes from phones
A crisis line in the footer"If you're in crisis, call or text 988"

Your first five pages

Whatever builder you choose, start with these five pages and add more later:

PageWhat it saysMain keyword idea
HomeWho you help, where, how you work, and a booking buttontherapist in [city]
Your main serviceWho it's for, what it helps with, how sessions work, fee[service] therapy in [city]
AboutYour training, approach, real photo, and why you do this work[your name], [license]
Fees and insuranceFee, insurance or superbills, sliding scale, cancellation policytherapist [city] that takes [plan]
ContactSimple form or link to your EHR's request form, crisis linecontact or booking

Add a page for each additional service once these are live. Each page should have one job and one main keyword, so they don't compete with each other. Our guide to SEO keywords for therapists shows how to choose them. Not sure what to charge before you write the fees page? The therapy fee calculator works it out from your real costs.

Your website also works best alongside a Google Business Profile and a directory profile. Use the same practice name, address, and phone number everywhere, and link each profile back to your site.

The contact form and HIPAA

Most website builders aren't designed to hold health information, and most won't sign a business associate agreement (BAA) that covers ordinary site forms. That matters if your contact form asks people to describe what they're struggling with.

  • Keep website forms simple: name, email, phone, and preferred times. Add a line asking people not to include health details.
  • Or link to your EHR's request form, which is designed for client information and covered by your BAA with the EHR.
  • If you need a secure form on the site itself, use a HIPAA-compliant form service that signs a BAA, or a plan that includes one (Brighter Vision's Flourish plan, for example, includes HIPAA forms through Hushmail).
  • Be careful with tracking. HHS has warned health providers about tracking technologies that send information to third parties. Skip ad pixels on pages about specific concerns.

Once someone becomes a client, consent and intake belong in your EHR's portal. Our guides to informed consent for therapy and the client intake process cover that side.

How to choose a website builder

  1. Decide how much you want to do yourself. Writing is the hard part, not dragging boxes.
  2. Set a budget for year one, including your time. Twelve months of a $29 plan is about $350; a $143 plan is about $1,700.
  3. Check SEO basics: custom page titles and descriptions, clean page addresses, fast pages, and a sitemap. Squarespace, Wix, Showit, and WordPress all offer these.
  4. Check that you own your content and can move it if you leave. Ask what happens to your site and domain if you cancel.
  5. Pick a template with the structure above, then replace every placeholder with your own words and photos.
  6. Launch something simple soon. A clear five-page site live this month beats a perfect one in six months.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a builder before knowing what to say. Write your pages first.
  • One "Services" page listing everything. It can't rank for any of it.
  • Hiding your fee. People leave rather than ask.
  • Stock photos of people as "clients." Use real photos of you and your space.
  • Asking for health details in a non-HIPAA form.
  • Paying month to month forever without checking the annual price. On Squarespace, annual billing saves about 24 to 26%.
  • Never updating it. Out-of-date availability and fees cost you inquiries.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best website builder for therapists?

It depends on your time and budget. For most solo therapists building it themselves, Squarespace or Wix is the simplest polished option. Therapist-specific services like Brighter Vision add therapy templates and support at a higher monthly cost.

Is Squarespace or Wix better for a therapy website?

Squarespace usually gives a cleaner result with less effort, because its templates are more structured. Wix gives more drag-and-drop freedom, which also makes it easier to end up cluttered. Both cost about the same, roughly $17 to $39 a month on annual billing as of November 2026.

How much does a therapist website cost?

About $200 to $500 a year on a general builder, about $700 to $3,600 a year for therapist-specific services, and estimates of $2,000 to $8,000 or more for a custom design. Add a domain name at roughly $10 to $20 a year.

Do therapist websites need to be HIPAA compliant?

Your website itself usually doesn't hold client records, but any form that collects health information should be HIPAA compliant, with a signed BAA. Keep website forms to contact details or use your EHR's request form.

Is Brighter Vision worth it for therapists?

It can be if you want support and don't want to build or learn a builder. As of November 2026, plans run about $78 to $299 a month on annual billing. Compare that with the cost of a general builder plus your own time writing.

Should my website be on the same platform as my EHR?

It can be simpler, but EHR websites are often limited in design and SEO. Many therapists use a separate website and link to their EHR's booking or request form.
